HEL Direct Fit Oil Cooler Kit for Toyota GR Yaris (2020-)

The Toyota GR Yaris, since its 2020 debut, has quickly become a standout in the automotive world. Its small, lightweight chassis is perfectly matched with Toyota’s rally-inspired AWD system and a powerful 1.6L 3-cylinder turbocharged engine. The GR Yaris has attracted global attention, becoming a familiar sight on roads and race tracks worldwide. Following the success of the HEL's direct-fitting oil cooler kits, we knew we had to get one in the workshop. Our goal was simple; to design and manufacture user-friendly, easy-to-install kits that require either no, or very little modifications.

Please note, this kit is confirmed to fit only pre-facelift Yaris GR models, as newer facelift models feature an OEM heat exchanger that may affect compatibility.

Oil Pump: You do not require to change or upgrade the OEM oil pump with this direct-fit kit, which has been designed to work effortlessly with the factory oil system.

To ensure perfect fitment, we 3D laser scanned the engine bay, engine, and its ancillaries. After determining the peak oil cooler position, a custom mounting bracket was designed using the threaded ports on the factory bumper support. We 3D-printed a prototype for fitment testing before manufacturing the final aluminum version. All HEL direct-fitting oil cooler brackets are laser cut, precision-folded, and powder-coated in black, resulting in a stealthy finish. Positioned directly behind the top grill, the Setrab oil cooler benefits from direct airflow, delivering optimal cooling efficiency.

Every HEL oil cooler kit features a high-quality, reliable 25 row oil cooler manufactured by Setrab in Sweden. We have been using Setrab coolers for 10+ years, and have never had any issues with the performance or quality. Having an oil cooler fail or even burst is not something you want to experience, especially in demanding conditions and that is something we have never seen with Setrab's build quality. In the past, we've even had reports of front-end collisions and the Setrab oil cooler was the only component that still worked!

Delivered with pre-assembled braided hoses and aluminium fittings, our comprehensive kit has everything required for a straightforward installation. Using AN10 high-flow performance hose to deliver and return oil from the external oil cooler, this kit also includes one of HEL's popular oil filter sandwich plates, equipped with a built-in thermostat. The thermostat ensures that your engine oil flows to the external oil cooler only when the oil reaches the desired temperature (92°C / 198°F).

Around 10% of the engine oil circulates through the oil cooler at any given time, this ensures a continuous flow that prevents air pockets and safeguards against thermal shock to the system. The surplus oil is then channelled back to the engine through the internal bypass system, promoting faster warm-up, providing added safeguarding in cold weather conditions, and eliminates the risk of overcooling.

During testing, the Yaris was pushed to its limits on both fast roads and demanding track conditions. Equipped with the ProLine 6 Series 10 row oil cooler, we successfully completed 10 hot laps at Castle Combe Race Circuit without any noticeable increase in oil temperature, showcasing the cooler's exceptional performance.
